SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH
COVINA, CALIFORNIA
EASTER 2023
Dear Parish Family,
The season of Lent calls us to reflection. Lent calls us to look at the “way” we serve God. What is
deeply behind what we do? What is the spirit behind our actions, deeds, work, prayer and service to
others?
Do we work in a spirit of obligation or a spirit of love? Do we serve others in a spirit that calls attention
to ourselves or that focuses on those we serve? Do we pray so that we can report on how many prayers
we accomplished, or do we pray each prayer slowly and reverently so as to be drawn into the Sacred
Heart? Do our deeds show others how generous we are or do they show everyone how generous God
is? Do our actions help others see us or do they help everyone to see the God of love, peace and justice?
Easter is not about what Jesus did, it is about “the way” He did it! And “the way” He did it was “the
way of love”. Jesus did it all in love, it is not what he did, but the manner in which He did it: in the
spirit of love. Jesus loves you!
Throughout the Easter Season beginning with the Great Easter Vigil of Holy Saturday and through the
Feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit, we celebrate that the Risen Lord does everything in
the Spirit of love for His Father and His love for you!
Asking God to bless you, we are your sisters and brothers in Christ,
Father William T. Easterling, Pastor
Together with all the Priests, Deacons also our Lay Leadership and Parish Staff
